Kim Edith is the brand I work under as a textiles artist/ designer-maker and is my registered company name.
My background is in art and I studied Illustration at Kingston University before becoming a secondary school textiles teacher. I combine the two disciplines to create fabric artwork with an illustrative quality. For example I often use song lyrics and quotations as starting points, and text features in most of my artwork.
Whilst studying illustration I specialised in creating whimsical collages from sketches and paper ephemera and I bring the same techniques to textiles, layering fabrics, stitch and embellishments to create mixed-media mini-quilts and fabric books.
I’m fascinated by the possibilities of fabric transfer paper, not just for Stitchbooking, but for my artwork too, and I use it to merge paper and fabric, adding hand drawn details, found images and photographs of original works.
